Homo- and cross-[4+2] cycloadditions of 2-alkenylindoles catalyzed by cationic halogen-bond donors were developed. Under mild reaction conditions, 3-indolyl-substituted tetrahydrocarbazole derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields.
