(Mercaptopropyl)indoles II (R = 5-OH, 7-OH; R3 = H, Me, CH2Ph, CH2CO2Et) were prepared by PhCH2SH-AlCl3 promoted opening of tetrahydrothiopyranoindoles which were also obtained from arynic cyclization of imines.
